About

After retiring from full-time work in 2024 I finally had the time and headspace to explore my creativity. What began as curiosity quickly turned into a deep love of clay and the making process.

I’m drawn to ceramics for the journey it offers: the quiet focus of the studio, the constant learning, the trial and error, and the freedom to explore without a single “right” answer. Each piece is shaped by experimentation, patience, and an ongoing conversation between hands, material, and mind.

When I’m not at the wheel, I’m outdoors — hiking, open-water swimming, or running. The natural world heavily influences my work, from the muted tones of trees and stone to the textures of earth and water. These landscapes find their way into my palette and surfaces, grounding each piece in a sense of place.

As my practice has grown, so has interest from others. Friends and followers began asking me to make pieces for them, and what started as a personal exploration has naturally evolved into sharing my work more widely.

I’m Lou Bainbridge — the hands behind Lou Bainbridge Ceramics — and this is the beginning of my ongoing journey with clay.
